Client: Fondazione Agnelli, Compagnia San Paolo
Project Status: Competition Entry

Fondazione Agnelli and Compagnia San Paolo opened an international competition for the refurbishment and riorganisation of the secondary school "Enrico Fermi" in Turin. The building, designed in the early 60s, is located in a complex area of the city where different communities have been cohexisting since the beginning of the XXth century. Our project aims to redesign and improve the learning spaces creating a formal and functional continuity with the surrounding area. The idea is to open the school onto the city, grafting it onto the urban pattern and making it a dynamic centre for the local community throughout the day. The library, the gym and the canteen have indipendent entrances, generating a new and active central lobby. This dynamic space becomes very distinctive - a place where pupils can feel part of an open and inclusive school community. The proposal preserves the design of the original facade, which we regarded as a collective memory of the neighborhood, and focuses on the riorganisation of the internal area to improve the usability of the building and its climate comfort.
